William L. Lind, affectionately known as Brother Bill and now Pastor Bill, has a powerful testimony rooted in God’s grace, faithfulness, and divine timing.
Pastor Bill honorably served in the United States Navy from 1980 to 1984. During his military service, he was stationed in Pearl Harbor, where he worked at the submarine base and later served aboard the USS Cochran (DDG-21). After completing his service, he was honorably discharged, unaware that years later a different “ship” would guide him directly into salvation.
In 1998, while watching a Discovery Channel documentary about Noah’s Ark, Bill, who was an unbeliever at the time, became deeply curious about the Bible. This curiosity led him to pick up a Bible and begin reading it. Although he did not fully understand what he was reading, he cried out to God in what became his very first prayer:
“God, I really want to know and understand this Bible, but I do not know how. I need help understanding Your Word.”
The very next day, a Christian co-worker named Victor approached Bill and shared something extraordinary. Victor said that God had spoken to him the night before and told him that Bill had been asking for help understanding the Bible. Shocked and amazed, Bill accepted Victor’s invitation to attend a Tuesday night Bible study. In June 1998, Bill gave his heart to the Lord at The Sacred Word Pentecostal Church in Brentwood, New York. Just a few weeks later, he was baptized in the pastor’s swimming pool.
In January 2001, Bill met Damaris Vargas on Three Kings Day, a holiday celebrated in her Spanish heritage. How fitting that God would bring them together on a day that commemorates the presentation of gifts to our Savior, Jesus Christ. Damaris herself was blessed with a precious gift from God in Bill Lind.
That same year, Damaris introduced Bill to Full Gospel Christian Center, where they have faithfully served for nearly two decades. Throughout the years, Bill has served in many capacities, including usher, head usher, evangelism team member, intercessory prayer team member, Sunday School Kids-on-the-Move teacher, Men’s Ministry leader, and deacon.
After more than 30 years of dedicated work in warehousing, fulfillment, and logistics, Pastor Bill is now retired. His passion for the Word of God, however, has never faded. Not only does he understand God’s Word, he lives it daily through his testimony, service, and faith.
Pastor Bill’s life is a living example of how God responds to a sincere heart that seeks truth, understanding, and salvation.
